Job Summary

The Security Officer/Public Safety Ambassador protects and guards University property, maintains order among the public and the UCSF community, monitors and controls entry to restricted areas, inspects areas to prevent fires, accidents, and other hazards, and directs visitors and answers questions concerning building and/or exhibit layouts.

This role requires the ability to push and pull up to 25 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods of time, carry and lift 21-30 pounds, and run short distances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Protect and guard University property
  • Maintain order among the public and the UCSF community
  • Monitor and control entry to restricted areas
  • Inspect areas to prevent fires, accidents, and other hazards
  • Direct visitors and answer questions concerning building and/or exhibit layouts
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • General PC knowledge and demonstrated proficiency using MS Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Excellent customer service and effective problem-solving skills; ability to fluently speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly under stress in emergency situations; sound judgment skills
  • Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability
Preferred Qualifications
  • One or more years of experience in the security field
  • Military experience
License/Certification
  • Valid and unrestricted California Driver's License - Class C (required)
  • BSIS (Guard Card) Certification (completed within one year from date of hire)
