Position Overview:


The State of Nebraska is actively seeking a dedicated individual to assume the role of an Eligibility Technician within the Department of Health and Human Services.

This role is crucial in assessing new and annual applications for child care subsidies, ensuring that eligible families receive the necessary support for their child care needs.


Under varying levels of supervision, the Eligibility Technician will evaluate eligibility for specific programs and manage a limited number of cases across several assistance initiatives; additional related responsibilities may be assigned.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze application and referral documents to ensure the information provided by parents, guardians, foster parents, and childcare providers meets agency standards and complies with State and Federal regulations.
  • Gather supplementary information through phone calls or written requests to verify applicant details and obtain necessary background data.
  • Review and compare information from applications, referrals, interviews, and other sources to assess eligibility for child care assistance.
  • Issue service authorizations based on eligibility evaluations.
  • Communicate eligibility determinations and case status changes to clients/applicants via phone, letter, or email, including their rights regarding fair hearings.
  • Respond to general inquiries from applicants, recipients, or other stakeholders regarding child care eligibility criteria and application processes.

Compensation:
$16.275 per hour - non-exempt

Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Dress Code:
Business Casual

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements: Experience in eligibility determination, community outreach, or related social services roles involving direct client interaction; OR post-secondary education in social work, counseling, psychology, sociology, human development, mental health, education, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in case management for children and families and/or prior work with child care providers.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: office procedures and practices.

Skills in: interviewing clients to gather critical information; effectively communicating with diverse audiences.

Ability to:

understand and apply agency assistance programs, policies, and eligibility criteria; learn and implement child support procedures; engage with clients who may be reluctant or confrontational; appreciate cultural differences; maintain an organized filing system; accurately code information on forms; manage personal workload efficiently; perform basic arithmetic calculations; and produce clear and concise reports and correspondence.
