Job Title: School Guidance Counselor

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Guidance Counselor to join our team at Wayne County Schools Employment Network.

Job Summary:

The School Guidance Counselor will provide guidance and support services to middle school students, focusing on academic, personal, and social development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in counseling, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct developmental guidance lessons in the classroom and in large groups.
  • Facilitate the integration of the guidance curriculum into the educational curricula.
  • Select topics and resources consistent with school identified objectives.
  • Conduct orientation activities for students new to the school.
  • Provide grade level-middle school through postsecondary-transitional activities.
  • Assist students with developing educational plans.
  • Provide school-to-career guidance activities using available resources.
  • Provide scholarship information and support guidance in applications.
  • Administer standardized tests.
  • Interpret standardized test results.
  • Assist the administration with the school testing program.
  • Conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in response to identified needs of individuals and groups of students.
  • Assist in the identification of “at-risk” students.
  • Assist in the administration of the Academic Crisis Team.
  • Consult with and serve as a resource for teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.
  • Conduct in-service programs for faculty and staff.
  • Maintain records to document interactions, interventions, and decisions.
  • Refer students and their parents to community agencies, programs, or specialists as appropriate.
  • Participate in the evaluation and revision of the school guidance program.
Requirements:
  • Must be a Licensed Professional Counselor.
  • Master's Degree in Counseling Education.
  • Extensive experience working with youth, families, and community organizations preferred.
  • Experience in the development and facilitation of professional development.
  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment dealing with diversity issues.
  • Experience with female relational aggression issues.
  • Experience with master scheduling; creating/building student schedules.
