We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Guidance Counselor to join our team at Wayne County Schools Employment Network.
Job Summary:The School Guidance Counselor will provide guidance and support services to middle school students, focusing on academic, personal, and social development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in counseling, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct developmental guidance lessons in the classroom and in large groups.
- Facilitate the integration of the guidance curriculum into the educational curricula.
- Select topics and resources consistent with school identified objectives.
- Conduct orientation activities for students new to the school.
- Provide grade level-middle school through postsecondary-transitional activities.
- Assist students with developing educational plans.
- Provide school-to-career guidance activities using available resources.
- Provide scholarship information and support guidance in applications.
- Administer standardized tests.
- Interpret standardized test results.
- Assist the administration with the school testing program.
- Conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in response to identified needs of individuals and groups of students.
- Assist in the identification of “at-risk” students.
- Assist in the administration of the Academic Crisis Team.
- Consult with and serve as a resource for teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.
- Conduct in-service programs for faculty and staff.
- Maintain records to document interactions, interventions, and decisions.
- Refer students and their parents to community agencies, programs, or specialists as appropriate.
- Participate in the evaluation and revision of the school guidance program.
- Must be a Licensed Professional Counselor.
- Master's Degree in Counseling Education.
- Extensive experience working with youth, families, and community organizations preferred.
- Experience in the development and facilitation of professional development.
- Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment dealing with diversity issues.
- Experience with female relational aggression issues.
- Experience with master scheduling; creating/building student schedules.
The School Guidance Counselor will work in a fast-paced educational environment, interacting with students, teachers, and parents on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment, maintain confidentiality, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
