Position Overview

The State of Connecticut is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Laboratory Technician I within the Department of Public Health. This position is essential in providing comprehensive support to various scientific divisions within the State Public Health Laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-analytical and post-analytical procedures essential for laboratory assessments.
  • Adhere to established safety protocols and quality control standards in laboratory operations.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain effective communication with laboratory clients.
  • Demonstrate adaptability to meet the evolving needs of laboratory services.

Work Environment

  • Location: State Public Health Laboratory
  • Work Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
  • Schedule: First shift, Monday through Friday

Essential Functions

  • Receive training in fundamental laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Prepare basic solutions, stains, and culture media according to specified guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities and results.
  • Assist in performing routine tests and examinations under supervision.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess at least one year of experience in a laboratory or medical environment. A high school diploma with relevant coursework in mathematics and science may substitute for the required experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with laboratory safety protocols and handling of potentially infectious materials.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems and data entry processes.
  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques and operation of laboratory equipment.

Physical Requirements

Incumbents must be prepared to undergo periodic health assessments and may be exposed to laboratory hazards.
