Job Summary:

This role is part of the UNC Health Care team, working in the Transfusion Medicine service (Blood Bank) to support all major clinical services in the hospital. The successful candidate will perform a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks, including product manipulations, testing for patients, and quality control and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.
  • Participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
  • Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, and train new employees.
  • Perform quality control and equipment maintenance in the laboratory.
  • Conduct routine and less standardized test procedures, including special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests.
  • Prepare specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required.
  • Report results to healthcare providers and consult/confere with them regarding test results.
  • Review test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely correction of errors.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree.
  • Eligibility to sit for MT exam within 12 months of hire.
  • Obtain certification within one year of becoming exam eligible.
  • No prior experience required.

Work Environment:

This is a full-time position, working Monday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm with rotating weekends and holidays. The salary range is $24.13-$34.70 (Hiring Range) for Medical Technologists and $20.88-$30.02 (Hiring Range) for Medical Laboratory Technicians.
