Compensation:
$18-$20/hr, depending on experience and skill level.
Work Schedule:
Monday to Saturday, with Wednesdays off. Expect to work between 36-40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Communication:
Provide updates on hospitalized patients, offer home care instructions, pre- and post-operative guidance, and medication administration advice. Address client inquiries with confidence and refer complex questions to veterinarians.
Client Education & Support:
Inform clients about preventive care, wellness practices by age, vaccination requirements, laboratory processes, and assist with financial policies by preparing estimates and discussing financial obligations.
Customer Service:
Welcome clients and their pets into examination rooms, ensure smooth transitions to the front desk, and promote the practice's products, programs, and services.
Animal Handling & Care:
Safely and compassionately restrain animals, assist veterinarians during medical, surgical, and dental procedures, prepare patients for surgery, administer anesthesia, monitor patients throughout surgery and recovery, and provide fluid therapy.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance:
Properly manage all surgical materials, maintain hospital equipment and inventory, and ensure that the surgery room, ICU area, examination rooms, and treatment areas are prepared and well-maintained.
Record Keeping:
Maintain precise and detailed patient records using a paperless medical record system, ensuring all procedures, vaccinations, and notes are accurately documented for billing purposes.
Pharmacy Assistance:
Aid in dispensing medications as directed by the veterinarian, prepare prescription labels, and package medications appropriately.
Safety & Technical Skills:
Adhere to DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety protocols; administer SQ, IM, and IV injections; conduct laboratory tests, radiographs, and electrocardiograms; place IV catheters; perform emergency interventions such as bleeding control and external cardiac massage.
Qualifications:
1+ years of experience as a Veterinary Technician
Ability to handle animals with care and compassion.
Knowledgeable about common health conditions and capable of alerting veterinarians to changes in patient status.
Familiarity with DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety regulations.
