Position Overview:

This role is pivotal in overseeing claims related to the MTA's Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP). Responsibilities encompass a variety of areas including Casualty, Workers Compensation, and Builders' Risk. The position also involves managing Third-Party Administrators (TPA) within the OCIP Claims Division of the Risk Management Department. Key tasks include ensuring the effective management of claim data within the Claims database system and the precise handling of financial transactions and statistical data relevant to the OCIP Programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all financial components of the TPA program, ensuring thorough review, confirmation, approval, and maintenance of financial transactions, including TPA settlements and counsel invoices.
  • Conduct initial investigations of TPA claims, identifying suitable insurance coverage and gathering necessary documentation.
  • Generate and reconcile periodic reports, including monthly status updates and loss runs.
  • Monitor settlement payments, ensuring timely processing.
  • Assist claim adjusters and administrative staff with various tasks as directed.
  • Manage claims for excluded coverages and respond promptly to discovery requests.
  • Engage in claims reviews and maintain communication with brokers and counsel regarding open claims.
  • Initiate accident investigations and manage surveillance efforts.
  • Participate in claims field visits and maintain an OCIP claims log.
  • Support insurance language updates in contracts and perform other assigned duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Strong accounting and financial management skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and other software for financial reporting.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
  • Strong work ethic, professional integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Competent typing skills (minimum of 40 words per minute).
  • Comprehensive understanding of insurance programs and policies.

Education and Experience:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Familiarity with MTA policies and procedures.
  • Certification as a Paralegal or Claim Professional.
