Position Overview

We are seeking a Design and Structural Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will have significant opportunities to engage in early-stage concept development as well as in the construction, testing, and troubleshooting of systems and components throughout the production process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the structural integrity of spacecraft and propulsion system primary structures, subsystems, mechanisms, and components, ensuring compliance with structural requirements and performance objectives.
  • Utilize engineering tools (e.g., Matlab) to conduct standard analyses.
  • Develop cold flow and hot fire propulsion test plans; create flight qualification plans; assist in cold flow and hot fire propulsion tests, including proof pressure testing.
  • Diagnose issues that arise during assembly and testing; perform customer analyses and provide necessary support.
  • Execute structural design and analyses.
  • Draft clear procedures (including assembly procedures); perform process hazard analyses (PHAs).
  • Participate in business development activities as required.
  • Contribute to the development of guidance, navigation, and control systems when applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • Two years of experience in designing or developing fluid systems or components integral to fluid systems, such as valves, pumps, tanks, and regulators.
  • Familiarity with propulsion and spacecraft systems, particularly hybrid (liquid+solid) systems and/or hydrazine systems.
  • Experience in creating releasable drawings based on concepts.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis.
  • Experience in structural design and performing analyses including loads, strengths, and thermal considerations.
  • Ability to devise innovative design solutions.
  • Experience with standard aerospace analyses and interpreting common data patterns.
  • Working knowledge of fluid system instrumentation and control components (e.g., pressure transducers, thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors, relays, solenoid valves, etc.).
  • U.S. citizenship/US person is required.
  • Capability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in designing or developing fluid systems or components integral to fluid systems, such as valves, pumps, tanks, and regulators.
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop.
  • Familiarity with machining tools such as mills and lathes.
  • Basic knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics, with some experience using Star CCM software and meshing; ability to conduct basic CFD analyses and interpret common data patterns.
  • Strong familiarity with at least one common engineering design tool, with knowledge of options, shortcuts, and map keys; CREO/ProE experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in propulsion testing.
  • Experience in analyzing and assessing launch vehicles, spacecraft, and systems across all development and operational phases.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering or GNC principles.
  • Basic understanding of one or more programming languages (e.g., C or C++), software tools, or processors.
  • Ability to document clear processes and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize process deviations.

Additional Information

  • This position may allow for remote work and may require occasional travel.
  • Compensation packages may vary based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
  • Salary Range: $98,100 - $171,398.
