Through a variety of programs, BFL provides comprehensive residential and non-residential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence, transitional shelter for the disabled homeless, and support for physically disabled individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges.
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Resident Support Specialist to join our team at BFL Apartments (BFLA), a supportive housing program serving vulnerable populations with disabilities. BFLA offers services to disabled adults and veterans, as well as families headed by individuals with disabling medical conditions.
The Resident Support Specialist reports directly to the Facility Manager/Supervisor. This role involves providing essential support to residents, managing the reception area, and coordinating activities and events in collaboration with clinical staff.
Responsibilities:- Provide comprehensive coverage at the Reception Desk, ensuring smooth entry and exit procedures for staff, residents, and visitors. Answer and direct telephone calls efficiently and complete administrative tasks as assigned by supervisors.
- Actively contribute to maintaining compliance with fire safety regulations and other facility protocols.
- Foster a welcoming and respectful environment by interacting courteously and professionally with all residents, staff, and guests.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of appropriate boundaries with residents and staff as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Respond promptly to incidents related to security or safety within the facility. Provide emergency response and crisis management support as needed.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all log and incident documentation required by supervisors for recording security and safety issues/incidents.
- Perform light housekeeping tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, trash removal, snow removal, or cleaning, when directed by the Shift Supervisor. These tasks may be necessary when housekeeping staff is unavailable and a safety concern is identified.
- A minimum of six months of prior experience working in a residential setting is preferred.
- Possess a high school diploma (or GED equivalent).
- Demonstrate strong oral communication skills and fundamental writing competency.
- Exhibit the ability to think and act calmly in emergency situations.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Spanish or other non-English language skills, as well as American Sign Language skills, are a valuable asset.
