Land Acquisition Specialist

The Land Acquisition Specialist is responsible for overseeing the procurement and relinquishment of right-of-way, which includes the formulation of legal descriptions, deeds, easements, agreements, and right-of-way maps.
Key Responsibilities
- Administers the acquisition and disposal of right-of-way.
- Conducts land surveys, including researching recorded documents, preparing land division maps, and directing survey teams.
- Evaluates and recommends the purchase of surveying equipment, providing training to teams on proper usage.
- Maintains the official city map and its amendments.
- Drafts legal descriptions for the disposal of public land.
- Prepares and executes various legal documents such as hold harmless agreements and revocable occupancy permits.
- Manages all public and private facilities within the right-of-way.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree in Land Surveying or a related field with at least 12 credits in Surveying, plus four years of relevant experience; or completion of an accredited four-year land surveying or Civil Engineering program with two years of experience.
- Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor with the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
- A minimum of two years of experience in land surveying and acquisition.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- In-depth understanding of the right-of-way process and land surveying practices.
- Familiarity with WisDOT protocols regarding land acquisitions and resident relocations.
- Proficient in interpreting maps and construction documents.
- Skilled in operating various surveying instruments.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and work autonomously.
- Proficient in utilizing computer software, including CAD and GIS.
- Capable of establishing effective relationships with colleagues and the public.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and bending.
- Ability to focus on projects for extended periods.
- Capacity to work in diverse environmental conditions.
