Job Title: Assistant Director, Gift Planning

This is a unique opportunity for a marketing-savvy individual or experienced fundraiser to make immediate contributions to a comprehensive gift planning program at Mount Holyoke College.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Gift Planning manages the marketing, identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors for life-income gifts, estate gifts, complex outright gifts, and gifts-in-kind for Mount Holyoke College.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the cultivation and solicitation of potential gift planning donors in collaboration with the annual, leadership, special, and principal gifts staff.
  • Develop donor strategies involving gift planning tools and prepare and present proposals.
  • Learn and stay current on gift planning vehicles and strategies.
  • Limited travel regionally, independently, or in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Develop, manage, and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive gift planning marketing program, including direct mail, email, and College publications.
  • Manage and grow the Mary Lyon Society (MLS), Mount Holyoke's stewardship program for individuals who have included the College in their estate plans or created gifts that provide income.
  • Draw up gift illustrations and assist with contract preparation for gifts that provide income (charitable gift annuities and charitable trusts).
  • Through in-depth conversations, uncover new and gift planning opportunities.
  • Use the development database to record progress and results.
  • Develop and oversee other initiatives as opportunities occur.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • A minimum of 2-4 years' experience in gift planning, or a combination of fundraising, marketing, gift planning, major gifts, law, finance, or trust services.
  • Experience soliciting gifts.
  • Must be able to deal with a diverse constituent base and handle confidential materials with discretion.
  • Able to travel up to 20-25% of time within New England and New York.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with individuals ranging widely in age, financial capability, and financial literacy and adapt strategies to their needs.
  • Strong acuity with numbers.
  • Must possess a high level of integrity and credibility.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in nonprofit marketing.
  • Success in making major and gift planning solicitations.
  • Training in aspects of charitable gift planning, including tax and inheritance law.
