Position Overview

Summary:

The Senior Credit Review Officer for Consumer Banking is tasked with assessing the credit exposure inherent in the institution's assets. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the methodologies and practices necessary for conducting credit risk evaluations and ongoing monitoring activities that support a robust independent credit review function.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough reviews, analyses, and evaluations of individual loans to ascertain (a) the completeness, quality, and adequacy of loan origination and credit action underwriting documentation, (b) ensuring that customer profiles align with the credit risk appetite of the business segments, and (c) analyzing data to establish an appropriate risk ranking.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with Credit Review peers, business segment colleagues, credit support teams, and other Risk Management professionals.
  • Evaluate and analyze various specialized lending portfolios and complex loan relationships.
  • Independently oversee the review of credit portfolios and processes, compiling a report of findings.
  • Provide senior management with regular formal reports concerning business units and the quality of portfolios, focusing on the adequacy of monitoring and management practices, potential emerging risks, significant asset quality trends, and an evaluation of overall credit risk management strategies.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise other Credit Review professionals to ensure thorough and accurate reviews of obligor files.
  • Responsible for preparing various management and board-level committee materials and coordinating related activities.
  • Assist in the development of credit review professionals by identifying and facilitating subject matter expert-based training.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with bank management, regulatory bodies, and the broader credit review team to efficiently execute review responsibilities.
  • Provide senior management with insights regarding the identification, measurement, and management of credit risk for designated business units.
  • Represent the Credit Review function in discussions regarding credit quality, segment risk, and related meetings with business segments.
  • Manage multiple projects and engagements concurrently.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business.
  • 10+ years of experience in Consumer Credit Risk Review, Bank Credit Audit, Risk Management, Underwriting, and Credit/Statistical analysis.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of credit risk management and related process and control frameworks.
  • Project management skills with the ability to deliver high-quality results while meeting deadlines and personal goals.
  • Proficient in MS Access, Excel, Word, and credit/statistical analysis tools.
  • Certification or advanced degree in progress (e.g., MBA, CPA, Financial Risk Manager).
  • Knowledge of technical accounting (GAAP) or financial statement analysis.
  • Experience in conflict management.
