JOB OVERVIEW

The primary responsibility is to ensure the effective implementation of the evidence-based programming known as the "Indigenous Integrated Correctional Program Model." This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Engaging in 50% of program delivery;
  • Facilitating participation in spiritual and cultural activities;
  • Ensuring support from family and community is accessible;
  • Providing oversight, coaching, and constructive feedback to program facilitators;
  • Participating in additional support sessions as required (individual meetings, parole hearings, assessments, etc.);

Responsibilities also include collecting and maintaining relevant data and generating statistical reports as necessary.

Focus on developing strategies to ensure that the evidence-based practices and programs offered by the Department of Corrections effectively address the needs of the Indigenous population, including:

  • Comprehensive development and implementation of a continuum of care and services for Indigenous individuals from intake through reentry;
  • Strengthening collaboration with Indigenous stakeholders, communities, and governmental entities;
  • Identifying systemic barriers faced by Indigenous offenders and enhancing the cultural competence of the Department to address these challenges.
