Housing Eligibility Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Housing Eligibility Specialist to join our team at the Oakland Housing Authority. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for interviewing applicants for housing assistance and determining their eligibility for our programs.
Key Responsibilities- Interview and pre-screen applicants to determine their eligibility for housing assistance
- Evaluate data from home visits, field investigations, and previous landlords to assess applicants' housing history
- Collect and analyze data from applicants with complex or difficult situations to make eligibility determinations
- Prepare housing vouchers and submit recommendations to management
- Explain policies affecting eligibility determinations and waiting list status to applicants
- Interface with residents, clients, and other employees to answer inquiries and resolve problems
- Prepare production reports and compose correspondence
- Train and supervise staff, and act as lead personnel as needed
- Graduation from high school and completion of 24 semester hours of general education college training
- Two years of full-time paid experience performing responsible work requiring exposure to public contact and interpretation and application of laws, rules, and procedures
- Possession of a valid California driver's license and an insurable driving record
- Bilingual skills in ASL, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and/or Spanish
