Clinical Coordinator II/Physician Assistant

Columbia University is seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to join the Department of Otolaryngology at the New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Supervising Physician to provide high-quality patient care, perform history and physical examinations, and establish presumptive diagnoses.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and triage consults on inpatients and emergency room patients under supervision of the physician team.
- Assess patient health status by interview and chart review, documenting patient care services by charting in patients' and department records.
- Perform physical examinations and provide treatment, recognizing and evaluating patients who require immediate attention and initiating medical treatment without direct supervision when necessary.
- Determine abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests and laboratory studies, following up on X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, laboratory data, and interpreting and acting on diagnostic test results.
- Provide follow-up care, including prescribing or adjusting medications to patients in accordance with established protocols.
- Pre-op workup, pre-op clearance, and patient optimization prior to surgery, with basic knowledge of ECG, lab data, and other diagnostic tests interpretation.
- Post-surgical patient care, including wound care and drain management.
- Develop and implement patient management plans, recording procedures and visit notes, and being accountable for outstanding patient continuity of care.
- Evidence of ability to maintain interpersonal relationships, communicate appropriately to others, and work effectively and efficiently to solve problems.
- Able to work independently and make sound clinical decisions when appropriate.
- Participate in team meetings, symposiums, and interdisciplinary weekly conferences to enhance patient care and outcomes.
- Preview new patients to assess multidisciplinary needs, coordinate patient plan of care, reassess and modify plan of care as necessary to achieve surgical and health goals, initiate referrals to specialty services, and foster continuity of care.
- Be the primary point of communication for patients, family members, and referring doctors, keeping the supervising physician updated about patients' status in a relevant and efficacious way.
- Must have excellent communication and written skills.
- Advanced Degree from Accredited ARC-PA Program or New York State Education Department approved PA education program.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.
- PA license in NYS and Board Certification.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS Certification.
- Current or Eligible for NYS DEA License.
- Intermediate MS Office skills.
- Experience using EMR (Epic).
- Ability to perform comprehensive history and physical examination.
- Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload.
- Work within a collaborative agreement/protocols with a physician and healthcare team.
- Demonstrate leadership ability to manage patients and interact effectively with peers and physicians.
