Job Description

The Clinical Assistant II is a senior-level clinician who provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and surgeons. This individual coordinates patient care by serving as a liaison between physicians, patients, families, internal/external healthcare providers, homecare providers, and insurance companies.

Responsibilities
  1. Liaison and Coordination: Serves as a liaison between physicians, patients, families, healthcare providers, nursing homes, homecare providers, patient employers, and insurance companies to ensure quality patient care for patients seen in the campus and offsite satellite offices.
  2. Team Support: Coordinates and functions in a lead role, the daily activities of the physician team staff to ensure an effective and efficient daily operations flow.
  3. Medical Assistant Scheduling: May assume responsibility for Medical Assistant schedules, and may travel to various sites depending on the needs of the physician/surgeon.
  4. Patient Care: Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting and processing specimens, and preparing for exam.
  5. Clerical Responsibilities: Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, and completing forms and requisitions as needed.
  6. Referral Coordination: Coordinates all referrals with multiple sources to ensure proper transition of care, communication with referring physician regarding appointment status, and ensures post-care communication.
  7. Physician Referrals: Manages physician referrals from various sources, as applicable to the department, as related to their individual providers.
  8. Appointment Scheduling: Assures appropriate appointment(s) based on diagnosis, coordinates multi-specialty visits, performs and assures appropriate surgical scheduling, including co-surgeon participation (as appropriate to department).
  9. Inventory Management: Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable.
  10. Examination Room Setup: Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies.
  11. Logging System Maintenance: Maintains logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart or others as needed.
  12. Work Environment: Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and in compliance with legal regulations.
  13. Personal Protective Equipment: Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  14. Phlebotomy Duties: May be required to perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
  15. Patient Demographic and Insurance Information: Demonstrates proficiency in updating patient demographic and insurance information. Assists in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms).
  16. Training and Mentoring: Provides training and mentoring to Medical Assistant I and II and non-senior Clinical Assistant staff.
  17. Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED; completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course of study from an approved school. 5+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a busy practice is preferred. BCLS certification - Required Issuing Authority: AHA
