Seattle, Washington, United States Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Full time
The Organization

We are a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to combating poverty, disease, and inequality on a global scale.

Our Mission:
We believe that every individual, irrespective of their background or circumstances, deserves the opportunity to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. Our workforce reflects the rich diversity of the communities we serve.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package to our employees and their families, which includes extensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with no premiums, generous paid time off, family leave, retirement contributions funded by the foundation, regional holidays, and various employee community engagement opportunities.

We are committed to fostering an environment where you can excel both personally and professionally.

The Team

The Human Resources team is devoted to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. We address complex challenges, consistently seeking innovative solutions and embracing changes that yield optimal outcomes.

As a member of our team, you will work alongside a diverse group of HR professionals dedicated to providing an exceptional employee experience, focusing on client needs, and upholding fair and consistent practices for all.

Your Role
You will lead the Total Rewards function, overseeing all compensation and benefits initiatives, expatriate assignments, and inbound U.S. immigration processes.

Your responsibilities include providing strategic direction and oversight for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the foundation's compensation, benefits, and global mobility programs. This encompasses directing job evaluations, salary surveys, establishing salary structures, and developing salary budgets.

You will create policies and procedures to ensure equitable and competitive employee compensation worldwide.

Additionally, you will manage the foundation's benefits programs, including negotiating coverage and costs with providers, and, in collaboration with finance, overseeing the benefits budget.

As a vital member of the HR leadership team, you will contribute to the overall objectives and key results across the HR function.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the Global Benefits, Compensation, and Global Mobility teams by providing guidance and leadership, mentoring team members, managing performance, fostering professional growth, prioritizing daily tasks, facilitating projects, and identifying solutions.

Coach, develop, and guide direct reports to ensure the team delivers a compelling and competitive offering for employees that aligns with the foundation's culture.

Contribute as a member of the HR Leadership Team responsible for developing and tracking the foundation's goals, strategies, and initiatives.

Collaborate closely with peers and partners across the foundation (e.g., Legal, Finance, and Tax).

Oversee the effective utilization of the Total Rewards budget and resources.

Develop and implement strategic programs, policies, and philosophies across the foundation that encompass compensation, benefits, mobility, recognition, and rewards.

Provide the foundation with enhanced compensation decision-making tools and transactional processing capabilities.

Lead priority initiatives related to benefits design and administration, including ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of benefit programs, practices, and procedures in relation to strategic objectives, and recommend new benefits.

Offer pay recommendations for executive and leadership-level hires, as well as overall budget determinations for organization-wide increases. This includes approving compensation decisions outside standard guidelines.

Manage relationships with benefits and mobility vendors, as well as compensation consultants.

Responsible for recruiting and managing the talent necessary to achieve the foundation's objectives.

Accountable for integrating and driving progress against diversity, equity, and inclusion organizational goals and commitments.

Create an environment that enables talent to thrive and be accountable for fostering an inclusive team culture.

Model and coach equitable decision-making and inclusive behaviors; address escalated issues promptly.

Willingness to travel 10 to 20% to regional offices.

Your Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent demonstrated experience, preferably in Human Resources, Finance, or Business.

Strong business acumen and expertise with the ability to align departmental objectives with broader organizational goals.

In-depth knowledge of trends, legislative activities, and regulatory issues impacting compensation and benefits.

Extensive knowledge of compensation, benefits, and mobility programs and their design.

Comprehensive experience in human resources, with a proven track record of building best-in-class global programs in complex, international environments requiring strong alignment with multiple internal partners.

Demonstrated ability to lead impactful, professional-level teams, including the ability to attract, assess, hire, develop, coach, reward/recognize, and retain employees, including managers and individual contributors.

Must be eligible to work legally in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.

The salary range for this role is $322,000 to $499,100 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $350,700 to $543,600 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hire salaries are typically set between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint.

Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate's job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.

Hiring Requirements

As part of our standard hiring process for new employees, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Candidate Accommodations

If you require assistance due to a disability in the application or recruitment process, please submit a request for accommodations.

Inclusion Statement

We are committed to the belief that all lives have equal value.

We strive for a global and culturally diverse workplace that supports increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion — of voices, ideas, and approaches — and we uphold this diversity through all our employment practices.

All applicants and employees who are drawn to serve our mission will enjoy equality of opportunity and fair treatment without regard to race, color, age, religion, pregnancy, sex, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, and prior protected activity.

Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives.

In developing countries, it focuses on improving people's health and providing them with the opportunity to escape hunger and extreme poverty.

In the United States, it seeks to ensure that all individuals—especially those with the fewest resources—have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in education and life.

Based in Seattle, Washington, the foundation is led by CEO Mark Suzman, under the direction of co-chairs Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates and the board of trustees.
