Job Summary

This role is responsible for providing financial support to patients, including financial assistance application assessment and approval, Medicaid application, pre-service estimates, and insurance eligibility review. The Financial Counselor will also provide a resource for onsite billing questions, international patient billing review, and pre-payments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide face-to-face service for patients needing assistance
  • Facilitate referrals to Medicaid as applicable
  • Complete and approve/deny Financial Assistance Applications
  • Perform insurance reviews for eligibility for hospital and professional services
  • Provide estimates, out-of-pocket requirements, copayment, and co-insurance, payment plans, and D/I review
  • Support drug co-pay application completion and set up drug coverage in EPIC
  • Use Cyracom translation devices for patients requiring translation services
  • Review patient bills and provide resolution or connect patients to a resource able to address the issue
  • Take pre-payments and payments towards payment plans, set up payment plans
  • Review daily EPIC reports and work queues to provide financial follow-up
  • Update EPIC and review flags, guarantor, registration, insurances, and appropriate billing indicators
  • Adhere to contractual guidelines and accepted payer guidelines
  • Minimize loss of reimbursement, denials, or delays, and analyze denials when needed to determine root cause
  • Review international patients and set up pre-payment prior to treatment per MC Policy
Requirements
  • High School or equivalent required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 4 years relevant experience in customer service and extensive use of desktop computers and applications
  • None

This is a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. Patient-facing and seated most of the day.
