Job Description

Position Overview

The Cambridge Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Educator to join our team. As a Special Educator, you will play a critical role in providing specially designed instruction to students with disabilities in both general education and separate settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct special education services to students with disabilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students based on various types of data
  • Collaborate with general education, special education, and related services staff to ensure positive educational outcomes for students with disabilities
  • Administer formal and informal assessments to inform decisions regarding IEP goals and objectives
  • Accommodate and modify instruction for student learning and support general education teachers in implementing appropriate accommodations
  • Ensure effective collaboration with families, community supports, and related service staff
  • Ensure effective instruction and support for students with disabilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Special Education required, Master's preferred
  • Massachusetts Certification of students with mild/moderate special needs required
  • Experience teaching or student teaching in an urban school setting
  • Specialized training/certification in a foundational reading program such as Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Reading
  • Broad knowledge and experience of programs and services specific to students' areas of eligibility
  • Broad knowledge of state eligibility requirements
  • Excellent skills in collaboration, oral and written communication, and problem-solving
