KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The educator is accountable for and anticipated to:

Design and prepare regularly scheduled educational activities and long-term projects that:

Align with the educational philosophy and objectives of the program;

Comply with the standards and guidelines set forth by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), NAEYC, QRIS, and DHSP; and

Support the social, physical, emotional, and cognitive growth of the children enrolled in the program.

Engage in weekly meetings with the Director/Teacher or Lead Teacher to evaluate and, if necessary, enhance weekly written curriculum plans.

Execute regularly scheduled educational activities and long-term projects.

Reflect on children's learning to inform the next cycle of curriculum development.

Incorporate feedback from the Director/Teacher and Lead Teacher regarding all aspects of the curriculum.

Facilitate child-centered, play-based small and large group activities with children on a daily basis.


Participate actively in safe and developmentally appropriate field trips that connect curriculum topics to real-world experiences.


Organize and maintain classroom space to facilitate a wide range of activities that encourage children's growing independence in utilizing classroom resources and materials.


Involve enrolled children in evaluating the classroom environment and establishing classroom rules to meet individual and group needs.

Ensure the classroom environment is free from hazards and implement safety/playground checklists in accordance with EEC, NAEYC, QRIS & DHSP regulations.

Provide nurturing and socially responsive care to all children enrolled in the program.

Contribute to the development of strategies that fully support the growth of individual children.

Observe, reflect upon, and document children's developmental progress using the COR Advantage assessment module.

Create child portfolios utilizing the COR Advantage assessment module and share these with parents during three annual parent-teacher conferences. Submit these for review, as necessary, to the Director/Teacher or Lead Teacher.

Engage in documenting children's learning through displays of their work.


Initiate and maintain regular and respectful communication with parents regarding their child's daily experiences in the program through daily conversations or meetings.

In all communications, uphold the confidentiality of children, families, and staff.


Participate in various meetings: parent meetings or workshops; staff meetings with the Director/Teacher, Preschool Manager, or other DHSP Childcare staff; and with program consultants.


Provide consistent professional support and communication to the classroom team, offering constructive ideas and seeking and accepting advice to enhance team dynamics.


Assume some Lead Teacher responsibilities when the Lead Teacher is absent, including, but not limited to, directing and supervising substitute staff.

Actively engage in and support the Department's Race and Equity Initiative.


Maintain professional knowledge through participation in in-service training workshops offered by the Childcare Division or other external resources, as well as meeting educational requirements established by the Department of Early Care and Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Compliance with or exceeding EEC (Department of Early Education & Care) regulations for preschool educators, with a minimum age of 21.

A minimum of nine months of supervised teaching experience.

Proficiency in basic writing and computer skills.

PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to:


Be agile in their movements; transitioning quickly from sitting on the floor to standing or kneeling to engage at the child's eye level.

Employees may need to pursue children, both in play and to respond to emergencies.

Be able to hear children who speak softly or mumble when distressed.

Be capable of using their hands and arms to move, reach, handle, and manipulate objects in the classroom, including moving furniture during annual reorganization.

Occasionally lift and/or move a child (up to 40 pounds).

Vision abilities are necessary for supervising children.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


The characteristics of the work environment described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position.

The noise level is moderately to very loud, encompassing classroom settings, outdoor playgrounds, and occasional field trips.
