Position Overview:
The role of Project Engineer is pivotal for growth and achievement within GCON Construction. This position supports the project manager and team in managing project documentation, cost accounting, scheduling, and overseeing construction activities. This diverse role demands proficiency in generating RFIs, comprehending financial impacts, and scheduling, all while maintaining safety protocols and nurturing community relationships. Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and manage the project closeout process, ensuring thorough data collection and organization for client handover.
  • Proactively oversee and mitigate risks related to document control, ensuring adherence to contract document management and distribution.
  • Actively participate in daily huddles with trade partners and GCON, as well as owner meetings, taking ownership of assigned tasks and resolutions.
  • Facilitate the establishment and approval of budgets, overseeing the audit process. Review proposals from assigned trade partners for accuracy in scope.
  • Assist in implementing the Last Planner System (LPS), organizing pull plan sessions, managing make-ready planning and constraint logs, maintaining the weekly work plan, and tracking Percent Plan Complete (PPC) while addressing variances.
  • Contribute to the payment application process, including setup, draw management, and monitoring receivables.
  • Develop Requests for Information (RFI) and evaluate submittals for accuracy. Propose solutions to RFIs before consulting the Design team. Manage the CMiC system.
  • Understand the factors influencing basic earnings, apply contract markups, and comprehend their implications on the budget and change orders. Review trade partner scopes to validate proposal legitimacy.
  • Understand the fundamentals of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling and the logic behind schedules. Create, update, and report on the Long Lead Matrix in coordination with the Contract Items List (CIL) and schedule milestones. Communicate any impacts to the Project Superintendent (PS) and Project Manager (PM).
  • Comply with 30-Hour OSHA guidelines and best practices. Enforce project safety standards and assist with safety orientations, Stretch & Flex, Pre-Task Planning (PTP), and Safe Behavior Observations (SBO). Conduct safety inspections with the required quality and quantity.
  • Embrace the principles of Injury Free Environments in practice.
  • Effectively identify potential unsafe work conditions, notify the appropriate personnel, and ensure follow-through for resolution.
  • Analyze safety scopes of work for contractors assigned to the project.
  • Present safety-related information confidently and respond to inquiries adeptly.
  • Exemplify GCON values with trade partners and clients while engaging with the industry.
  • Implement and practice GSTEPS as part of the project process.
  • Utilize volunteer time to support the community and enhance GCON's community relations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Preferred experience includes construction internships or related work experience.
  • General knowledge of construction principles and practices is required.

  • Familiarity with
    • CMiC
    • PlanGrid
    • BIM 360
    • Assemble & MS Project or similar software platforms.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Project Engineer.
Physical Requirements:
  • Work involves a combination of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Frequent use of hands/fingers for computer work.
  • Visual acuity for near, mid, and far ranges; color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and hand/eye coordination.
  • Ability to hear conversational levels in person and over the phone; sufficient to hear alarms on equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Capability to bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
