Position Overview:
The role of Project Engineer is a vital entry point for growth and achievement within GCON Construction. This position supports the project manager and team by handling project documentation, job cost tracking, scheduling, and overseeing construction activities. This diverse role demands proficiency in creating RFIs, comprehending financial impacts, and managing timelines, all while upholding safety protocols and nurturing community relations. Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and oversee the project closeout process, ensuring thorough data collection and organization for client handover.
  • Proactively identify and manage risks related to document control, ensuring adherence to contract documentation protocols.
  • Actively participate in daily huddles with trade partners and GCON, as well as owner meetings, taking ownership of assigned tasks and resolutions.
  • Facilitate the establishment and approval of budgets while managing the audit process. Review proposals from trade partners for accuracy in scope.
  • Assist in implementing the Last Planner System (LPS), organize pull planning sessions, manage make-ready planning and constraint logs, maintain the weekly work plan, and track Percent Plan Complete (PPC) while addressing variances.
  • Contribute to the payment application process, including setup, draw management, and monitoring of receivables.
  • Prepare Requests for Information (RFI) and evaluate submittals for accuracy. Propose solutions to RFIs before consulting the Design team. Manage the CMiC system.
  • Understand the factors influencing basic earnings, apply contract markups, and comprehend their implications on budgets and change orders. Review trade partner scopes to validate proposal accuracy.
  • Understand the fundamentals of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling and the rationale behind schedules. Create, update, and report on the Long Lead Matrix in conjunction with the Contract Items List (CIL) and schedule milestones. Communicate any impacts to the Project Superintendent (PS) and Project Manager (PM).
  • Comply with safety guidelines and best practices, including 30-Hour OSHA standards. Enforce project safety protocols and assist with safety orientations, Stretch & Flex, Pre-Task Planning (PTP), and Safe Behavior Observations (SBO). Conduct safety inspections with the required thoroughness.
  • Embrace the principles of Injury-Free Environments in practice.
  • Effectively identify potential unsafe work conditions, notify the appropriate personnel, and ensure follow-up for resolution.
  • Analyze safety scopes of work for contractors involved in the project.
  • Confidently present safety-related information and respond to inquiries effectively.
  • Exemplify GCON values with trade partners and clients while engaging with the industry.
  • Implement and practice GSTEPS as part of the project process.
  • Utilize volunteer time to support community initiatives and enhance GCON's community relations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Preferred experience includes construction internships or related work experience.
  • General knowledge of construction principles and practices is required.

  • Experience with

    • Assemble & MS Project or similar software platforms.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a Project Engineer role.
Physical Requirements:
  • Work involves a combination of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Frequent use of hands/fingers for computer tasks.
  • Visual acuity for near, mid, and far range, including color vision and depth perception.
  • Ability to hear conversational levels and alarms on equipment.
  • Effective communication skills for speaking in front of groups and over the phone.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Capability to bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed.
