As a Construction Project Engineer at Graycor, you will participate in our Engineering Mentoring Program, crafted to provide you with essential hands-on experience vital for a thriving career in the construction sector. You will benefit from continuous, specialized one-on-one training, coaching, and mentoring through a variety of engaging project assignments, along with a comprehensive rotation across different departments. You will take an active role in your professional development, conducting self-assessments of your progress against established core competencies.
Typically, engineers will spend around 24 months in the Engineering Mentoring Program before progressing to a new role within Graycor.
AS A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ENGINEER, YOU WILL GAIN EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
Project Management/Project Controls:
- Support the Project Manager and Superintendent in the effective oversight and management of the project, ensuring that safety and quality protocols are implemented on-site.
- Develop and sustain the critical path project schedule, including ongoing updates. Assist the Project Manager and/or Superintendent in preparing short-term look-ahead schedules and applying Lean Construction methodologies.
- Maintain project documentation and expedite approvals from the Owner, Architect, and Engineers. Acquire and maintain a comprehensive understanding of all contract documents, including plans, specifications, owner’s contract, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
- Assist in procuring equipment and materials, while tracking and expediting their delivery.
- Monitor and assess subcontractor and vendor performance. Engage with subcontractors and vendors on technical and contractual issues.
- Assist in preparing estimates and proposals to secure project work. Collaborate with the Project Manager and/or Estimator in bid preparation, subcontractor/vendor solicitation, evaluation, and award.
- A Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related technical field.
- 0-3 years of relevant construction internship or post-undergraduate experience.
- The willingness to travel extensively and temporarily reside at project sites for extended durations, with travel home provided periodically. Travel subsistence pay and travel incentive bonuses may apply.
- A strong desire to grow professionally and acquire new knowledge and skills. Our most successful Engineers are driven to excel and are passionate about construction across various project types.
- The ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Multi-tasking with urgency while maintaining strong attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
- Effective communication skills, enabling professional interaction with managers, colleagues, subcontractors, and construction craft personnel.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Basic knowledge of scheduling, estimating, and takeoff software is advantageous. We utilize Primavera P6, WinEst, and On-Screen Takeoff.
