Rheumatology Nursing Specialist


The Rheumatology Nursing Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering specialized nursing care and will collaborate closely with healthcare providers and interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient management. This includes engaging in activities such as patient triage via phone, addressing scheduling inquiries, managing insurance authorizations, drafting correspondence, and facilitating communication with families through the designated patient portal.

Moreover, the Rheumatology Nursing Specialist will be involved in educating patients and their families, either in-person or over the phone, about prevalent Rheumatology conditions and treatment options.

The specialist will apply the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions effectively.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate exceptional time management abilities, exhibit initiative, thrive in collaborative settings, and show a commitment to enhancing the care of Rheumatology patients.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts continuous assessments and evaluations of patient progress, adjusting the interdisciplinary care plan as necessary to meet patient needs.
  • Identifies the educational and resource needs of patients and families, initiating appropriate teaching and referrals.
  • Responds to patient inquiries via phone, clarifying treatment plans after consultation with the healthcare provider.
  • Shares clinical expertise with team members and collaborates with the Nursing Education Department to disseminate subspecialty knowledge among nursing staff.
  • Acts as a bridge between families and healthcare professionals.
  • Employs a specialized knowledge base and technical skills in nursing practice related to the subspecialty, adhering to the Nurse Practice Act and institutional policies.
  • Contributes to the formulation of care standards for the specialty patient demographic.
  • Exhibits proficiency in caring for patients across all age groups, including neonates, children, adolescents, and adults.
  • Recognizes personal learning needs and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development, setting goals for growth.
  • Engages in departmental and institutional initiatives aimed at Quality/Process Assessment and Improvement, identifying service enhancement opportunities, and implementing suitable recommendations aligned with the Nemours Foundation's objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Current Registered Nurse Licensure in Delaware (or compact state) required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required
  • Experience in pediatric nursing is essential; prior experience in Rheumatology nursing is preferred
