Lead Field Service Engineer for Marine and Industrial Gear Sets

GE's Power Conversion business is seeking a highly skilled Lead Field Service Engineer to provide technical direction for the overhaul, repair, and maintenance of equipment consisting of GE marine and industrial gear sets, as well as motor and generator bearings. The successful candidate will report to the FSE Manager and manage work items to support customer and internal requirements.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform technical service for safe and successful overhaul, repair, and maintenance on GE marine main reduction gears, industrial gears, attached drives, alignments, motor, and generator mechanical equipment.
- Provide technical direction to skilled labor performing work on customer sites to ensure the executed work reflects the technical requirements and quality standards of the service request.
- Execute electrical tests in MV AC Electrical Motors and Generators, including insulation resistance, winding resistance, voltage drop test, and transformation ratio.
- Perform tests and inspections, such as borescope inspections, neutral zone adjustments, brush and brush holders' tests and adjustments, and commutation inspection.
- Execute assembly/disassembly of electrical components, including cables, capacitors, RTDs, surge arresters, fan motors, CTs, TCs, winding, and coil assembly.
- Effectively communicate internally and with customers and skilled labor the job-planning requirements, including risk assessment and technical requirements.
- Execute mechanical inspections in Large and Medium electrical rotating machines, including dimensional control, sleeve and roller bearings, air-gap inspections, and metrology skills.
- Perform shaft alignments, including flexible and solid couplings, motor-gearbox/load machines, and generator-gearbox/turbine.
- Execute assembly/disassembly of mechanical components, including rotor, stator, covers, heat exchanger, sleeve bearings, roller bearings, couplings, and mechanical seals.
- BS Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of field engineering or related engineering experience with overhaul and maintenance on marine and industrial gears, steam turbines, motors, and generator equipment.
- US Citizen with the ability to achieve security clearance for Department of Defense projects.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 85% of the time to various locations in the USA and internationally.
- Knowledge of GE gears, marine steam turbines, motors, and generators with the ability to provide technical direction for overhaul, repair, maintenance, and testing for a range of equipment vintages, sizes, and application types.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively manage people.
- GE Field Engineering Program or Direct Hire graduate.
- Maintenance and repair experience on GE and Non-GE marine and industrial gear sets.
- Maintenance and repair experience on GE and Non-GE motors and generators.
- Ability to make decisions with regards to completion of tasks and job methods and follow through with results of outcome.
- Ability to interact and communicate with internal customers, including Sales, Service, Manufacturing, Engineering, Finance, and Management personnel.
- Ability to execute increasingly complicated assignments, which require considerable engineering skill and creative ability and independent judgment.
