Compensation & Perks

Work Schedule

This hybrid role entails approximately four days of in-person work and one day of remote work per week. The position operates during standard business hours but may require evening and/or weekend commitments. Travel to community venues, shelters, and the residences of program participants is also necessary.

A Day in the Role...

As COPAL's Community Engagement Leader, you will spearhead and support initiatives aimed at social transformation in the Mankato Regional Area, contributing to COPAL's mission of empowering Latine communities throughout Minnesota. Key responsibilities include:
  • Employing community organizing strategies to implement campaigns for social change, including canvassing, one-on-one discussions, and leadership development.
  • Building strong relationships with Latine Minnesotans and allies.
  • Facilitating leadership growth to meet campaign objectives.
  • Identifying, recruiting, training, and mobilizing community members into active roles and leadership positions throughout campaigns.
  • Leading a committee composed of members.
  • Organizing and conducting effective meetings and training sessions to foster community, enhance leadership, and drive movement.
  • Creating and executing a work plan to fulfill programmatic and organizational objectives.
  • Assisting the COPAL South-Central Regional Office with logistical requirements.
  • Supporting the South-Central Regional Office Director with administrative duties.
  • Ensuring compliance with testing protocols while maintaining a controlled environment.
  • Setting up technology for assessments, monitoring progress, and assisting participants with technical issues.
  • Safeguarding assessment materials and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Providing support to participants by clarifying test processes and instructions.
  • Reporting any irregularities or violations of testing policies to the appropriate personnel.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Minimum of one year of experience in organizing, whether through community engagement, electoral politics, advocacy, or active leadership.
  • Experience initiating discussions with community members about their experiences, aspirations, and challenges, along with a readiness to engage boldly with new individuals.
  • Proven experience in facilitating meetings, training sessions, and group activities that inspire action.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English.
  • Familiarity with organizing principles and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Detail-oriented, accountable, and possessing strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Office Suite.
  • A relational leader and collaborative team player capable of motivating diverse groups.
  • Consistent follow-through and clear communication with colleagues.
  • Willingness to ask questions and seek guidance as necessary.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice, along with a dedication to progressive political change.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, meeting COPAL's driving record standards.
