Job Summary

We are seeking a Lead Organizer to join our team in the Mankato Regional Area. As a Lead Organizer, you will be responsible for leading and supporting campaigns for social change, developing deep relationships with Latine Minnesotans and allies, and supporting leadership development to achieve campaign goals.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize community organizing tools to execute campaigns for social change, including canvassing, one-to-one meetings, and leadership training.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Latine Minnesotans and allies.
  • Support leadership development to achieve campaign goals.
  • Identify, recruit, train, and move community members into regular action and positions of leadership throughout campaigns.
  • Lead a member-based committee.
  • Plan and lead effective organizing meetings and trainings to build community, develop leadership, and generate movement.
  • Create and carry out a work plan to achieve programmatic and organizational goals.
  • Support the COPAL South-Central Regional Office in its logistical needs.
  • Support the South-Central Regional Office Director in completing administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience organizing with people, whether through community organizing, electoral politics, issue advocacy, or active community leadership.
  • Previous experience initiating conversations with community members about their stories, hopes, fears, and challenges.
  • Experience facilitating meetings, trainings, and/or group gatherings that move people to action.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English languages.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with organizing theories and a desire for constant learning.
  • Accountability, detail-oriented, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literate and previous experience with MS Office Suite.
  • Relational leader and good team player with the ability to work with a broad team of staff and grassroots leaders and motivate diverse groups of people.
  • Commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice and commitment to progressive political change.
  • Commitment to COPAL's goals, embracing the Jemez principles for participatory democratic organizing with a deep investment in our shared agenda for change.
  • Valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL's driving record requirements.
