Graduate Program Assistant (Part-time)
McNair Scholars Initiative
St. Edward's University is seeking applications for the part-time role of Graduate Program Assistant. This position will support the Director and Assistant Director in the management of the McNair Scholars Initiative, a federally funded program with a commitment to fostering academic excellence among underrepresented students.
Applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral program and possess exceptional writing and editing abilities. Experience in teaching or tutoring is highly desirable. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to engage effectively with a diverse student body and faculty.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate GRE analytical writing and verbal exam preparation sessions during the summer research internship.
- Guide scholars in crafting purpose statements, resumes, and academic papers.
- Provide assistance to faculty mentors and scholars throughout summer research projects.
- Advise McNair Scholars on academic strategies essential for graduate school applications, including GRE preparation and funding research.
- Collaborate with McNair staff and marketing teams to produce program publications, including newsletters and research journals, while serving as editor for these materials.
- Support the maintenance of the mentoring partnership within the McNair Association of Professionals.
- Assist in developing research opportunities with partner institutions.
- Help organize and execute an eight-week summer research program and a symposium for paper presentations.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of annual recruitment initiatives for McNair Scholars.
- Maintain comprehensive records of grant documentation and student progress.
- Assist students in preparing presentations for academic conferences and symposiums.
- Evaluate scholars' academic performance and progress.
- Participate in the planning of student workshops and McNair events.
- Work closely with faculty mentors and prospective mentors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
