Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance and Grants Administration to join our team at the University of Washington. This is a critical role that will oversee the financial and grants management activities for the Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS). The successful candidate will have a strong background in finance, grants management, and academic research, with excellent leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the Institute's financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee grants administration, including pre- and post-award activities, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and University regulations.
  • Develop and implement financial systems, procedures, and policies to ensure efficient and effective financial management.
  • Provide financial direction and advice to program directors and unit managers.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and faculty leadership to ensure effective and productive team operations.
  • Supervise and train staff to ensure fiscal services and compliance in support of finance and grant management activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in organizational and financial management, including pre- and post-award grants management in an academic research setting.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience in managing complex projects and teams.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
  • Experience with University of Washington or other large academic financial systems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Health Care Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience managing clinical research and/or academic training programs.
  • Experience with cost/recharge type centers, including launching, rate-setting, fiscal management, billing, and fiscal analysis.
  • Experience in applying continuous process improvement, lean techniques, or other organizational development approaches.
