The University of Washington is seeking a highly skilled Director of Finance and Grants Administration to join their team. This is a critical role that will oversee the financial affairs of the Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS), a $85 Million health research institute based at the University of Washington.
Key Responsibilities- Independently manage the Institute's financial activities on a day-to-day basis, including oversight of the reconciliation and reporting of expenditures.
- Provide financial direction and advice to the Program Directors and Unit Managers.
- Develop and maintain control systems for monitoring expenditures, including oversight of the reconciliation and reporting of expenditures.
- Oversee and track total compensation and payroll activities.
- Develop policies and procedures as they relate to fiscal management, including development of a complete annual budget process for the Institute and all funding sources.
- Participate in the process of negotiating periodic institutional support from the Office of Research, UW Medicine, the Health Science Schools, and other UW units.
- Develop a complete 7-year budget for renewals of the CTSA grants in partnership with the PI and Executive Director.
- Ensure appropriate use of state funding.
- Liaison with partner institutions' fiscal administrators to reduce barriers to collaborative research services.
- Maintain accountability of compliance with all federal, state, and University regulatory standards and requirements.
- Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or related field.
- A minimum of 6 years experience in organizational and financial management, including pre- and post-award grants management in an academic research setting.
- Additional experience focused on finance and organizational development.
- Demonstrated success in federal grant proposal development and support.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
- Experience managing complex, collaborative administrative projects and processes.
- Strongly detail-oriented, analytical, able to work on large and complex projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Skill in performing fiscal analyses, organizing data, and developing a variety of intuitive reports and dashboards for leadership use.
- Strong supervisory skills; able to develop and lead teams.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with high-level academic and medical professionals.
- Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communications.
- Exceptional organizational planning and time management skills.
- Strong customer service orientation to meet the needs of users in a new, complex, and dispersed consortium environment.
- Master's degree in Health Care Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field plus 3 years of experience in organizational and financial management, including pre- and post-award grants management in an academic research setting.
- Experience managing clinical research and/or academic training programs.
- Experience with University of Washington or other large academic financial systems.
- Demonstrated skill in development and utilization of complex administrative databases.
- Hands-on fiscal management experience with UW systems, policies, and offices for purchasing, accounting, grant submissions, payroll, and equipment inventory.
- Experience in clinical research grants and contracts administration.
- Experience with cost/recharge type centers, including launching, rate-setting, fiscal management, billing, and fiscal analysis.
- Experience in applying continuous process improvement, lean techniques, or other organizational development approaches.
