Automation & Controls Engineer

The Automation & Controls Engineer will provide technical support to manufacturing teams to drive improvements. They will also execute medium and large projects including translating needs, defining scopes, estimating costs, evaluating resources, and coordinating for commissioning and startup.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Leadership: Provides leadership and project management on electrical technical improvements to improve product quality, equipment uptime, and line utilization. Ensure successful design principles, and that projects are completed on time and on budget.
  • Contract Engineering Management: Oversees and manages contract engineering resources across multiple projects.
  • Compliance and Safety: Monitors projects for compliance with applicable codes and accepted engineering practices. Ensures all projects are delivered consistent with scope and expectations around operability and costs.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serves as the subject matter expert on key controls applications.
  • Technical Support: Provides technical support to manufacturing including operations, maintenance, process support and to the R&D team.
  • Troubleshooting: Assists plant personnel in troubleshooting of various control systems.
  • Control System Configuration: Ensures PLC/HMI controls are appropriately configured and programmed.
  • Electrical Safety: Ensures electrical safety through control reliability and guarding/interlocks.
  • Leadership and Expertise: Use expertise to lead electrical safety in the division. Serves as an expert in the division's technical applications.
  • Technical and Process Support: Provides technical and process support to key business resources.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in electrical engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Electrical Codes: General understanding of all applicable electrical codes.
  • Project Leadership: Strong project leadership skills and ability.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills to quickly assess situations, develop appropriate solutions, and manage execution.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of motor control, programmable controllers, software, instrumentation, feedback control systems, and control system networks.
  • Programming Experience: Experience in Rockwell Allen Bradley PLC and HMI Programming (RSLogix5000, Studio5000, FactoryTalk View), Siemens TIA portal, Wonderware, and/or Inductive Automation.
  • Familiarity with Control Systems: Familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, control valves, and servo systems.
  • Equipment Check Out and Troubleshooting: Experience in equipment check out, debugging, start-up / commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Travel: Ability to travel 30-40%.
