Position Overview:
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Department of Psychiatry (Child and Adolescent Division) is seeking a dedicated professional for its University of Maryland School Mental Health Program. This role is available for either a Counselor or Senior Counselor, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Role Responsibilities:
The Counselor or Senior Counselor will deliver a comprehensive range of mental health services and consultation to students enrolled in Baltimore City Schools. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting assessments and evaluations.
  • Providing individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Implementing crisis intervention strategies.
  • Consulting with teachers and school staff.
  • Facilitating school-wide education and training on mental health topics.

The primary focus of this position is to offer direct clinical services and school-based consultations, which encompass clinical diagnosis, treatment planning, and professional collaboration with educational staff. Additionally, the role includes maintaining patient records, preparing necessary billing documentation, and completing other required administrative tasks.

As part of the clinical responsibilities, the clinician will deliver intensive mental health services to youth diagnosed with DSM-5 conditions that affect their daily functioning and academic success. This aspect of the role will operate under a fee-for-service model within the University of Maryland outpatient mental health center.

The clinician may also provide supervision to master's level trainees engaged in the School Mental Health Program. Some telehealth services may be required.

Qualifications:
Counselor:
Master's degree in Social Work or Psychology is required. No prior experience is necessary, although professional experience in mental health services is preferred. Candidates must hold a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) license in Maryland.

Senior Counselor:
Master's degree in Social Work or Psychology is required, along with one year of post-licensure experience (LCSW, LCSW-C, or LCPC) in a related treatment area. Candidates should have experience in training and supervising others, with a preference for experience in school mental health services. Licensure as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C) in Maryland is required.

Skills and Abilities:
Successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of best practices in children's mental health, effective communication skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations are essential.
