Director of Learning Services and Social Sciences

Job Summary:

The University of Washington Libraries seeks a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Learning Services and Social Sciences. This key leadership position will oversee the development and implementation of innovative learning services and programs that support the academic success of students in the social sciences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for the Learning Services department, including the development of new programs and services that support student learning and success.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to design and deliver high-quality learning services and programs that meet the needs of students in the social sciences.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of librarians and staff to ensure the effective delivery of learning services and programs.
  • Develop and manage budgets and resources to support the Learning Services department.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices in learning services and social sciences, and apply this knowledge to inform the development of new programs and services.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Library Science or related field from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in learning services and social sciences, with a focus on program development and management.
  • Proven track record of leadership and collaboration, with experience in supervising and mentoring staff.
  • Strong understanding of student learning and success, with experience in designing and delivering programs that support student outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Library Science or related field.
  • Experience in managing budgets and resources.
  • Knowledge of social sciences and their relevance to student learning and success.
  • Experience in collaborating with faculty and staff to design and deliver programs that support student learning and success.
