Position Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Leader is tasked with guiding the engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring effective preventive maintenance of the facility and all operational equipment, conducting electrical troubleshooting, and minimizing equipment downtime to maximize production efficiency while adhering to all safety regulations. This role also involves managing personnel to maintain budgetary compliance and ensure adequate staffing and training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a daily log of significant equipment/process incidents requiring follow-up actions.
  • Engage in and support the department's safety training initiatives, including weekly safety meetings and shop safety inspections.
  • Conduct investigations into accidents resulting in injuries requiring medical attention.
  • Evaluate the skills of team members and create training opportunities to bridge any skill gaps.
Weekly Work Schedule Management
  • Receive approved schedules and relevant work orders from the planner/scheduler, discussing any special instructions necessary for job execution.
  • Coordinate process improvement actions to enhance the efficiency of the work schedule.
  • Supervise the quality of work performed by the assigned crew through audits during and after job completion.
  • Adjust the weekly work schedule daily to ensure sufficient coverage based on work order priorities and craft availability.
  • Review actual labor and material usage against estimates for completed jobs to identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist the planner in evaluating upcoming jobs and determining the best approach for execution.
  • Gather necessary blueprints, drawings, and manuals to clarify work orders.
  • Utilize the computerized maintenance management system effectively to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to proper work request/order procedures.
  • Prioritize safety in all work execution.
Work Process Management
  • Identify opportunities for equipment/process performance improvements and document suggestions.
  • Act as the primary liaison between Production Supervision and the Maintenance Department.
  • Ensure production areas receive timely and quality maintenance services.
  • Coordinate maintenance needs with the Planner/Scheduler for necessary upgrades and repairs.
  • Keep the Maintenance Manager informed of any critical situations and seek guidance when necessary.
  • Analyze equipment failure data to suggest and implement improvements to reduce failures.
Preventive Maintenance Program
  • Assist in developing preventive maintenance inspections for new and existing equipment.
  • Ensure all preventive maintenance inspections are completed as outlined in work orders.
  • Recommend additional PM tasks based on equipment failure analysis.
  • Suggest PM inspection frequencies based on operational metrics.
  • Collaborate with the Planner/Scheduler to optimize PM frequency rates to enhance efficiency.
Total Productive Manufacturing Participation
  • Champion the TPM Professional Maintenance process.
  • Keep the PM Pillar Board updated and be prepared to discuss its contents.
  • Drive the reduction of breakdown losses through focused improvement tools.
  • Support the Autonomous Maintenance process through training and assistance.
  • Lead the development of Asset Maintenance Plans for critical assets.
  • Contribute to the Maintenance Prevention efforts aligned with Early Equipment Management.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience with four years in a high-speed manufacturing environment, particularly with a mechanical/electrical focus.
  • Proven leadership skills in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Certification as a Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience in the food/beverage manufacturing sector is advantageous.
Position-Specific Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software as needed.
  • Understanding of SQF standards and a commitment to Food Safety and Quality.
  • Flexibility to work alternate shifts as production demands dictate.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Requires moderate attention to detail with one or two senses at a time.
  • Work environment may be repetitive and subject to seasonal temperature variations.
