Job Summary:

Houston Methodist is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will have the opportunity to work in a laboratory setting or perform computer work that supports the department's research mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the physician and/or Principal Investigator (PI) in maintaining the functionality and operations of the Principal Investigator's (PI) laboratory.
  • Promote a positive work environment and lead the team to be dynamic and a focused work unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimal department results.
  • Role model effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication, which includes active listening and teaching, assisting in the development of such skills.
  • Provide contributions towards the improvement of department scores for employee engagement, i.e., peer-to-peer accountability.
  • Develop research methods and perform research activities.
  • Document research results and write reports of results for presentation and/or publication in professional journals and other publications.
  • Follow all safety rules while on the job, report accidents promptly, and correct minor safety hazards.
  • Assist with the implementation and education of department-based safety initiatives, standards of practice, and protocols.
  • Identify opportunities for corrective action and process improvement, providing recommendations, and contribute to meeting department and laboratory targets for quality and safety.
  • Utilize resources effectively and efficiently, demonstrating responsible financial stewardship.
  • Manage own time effectively and prioritize work to achieve maximum results in a timely manner.
  • Participate in pertinent research activities and evidenced-based practice projects.
  • Participate in departmental projects and activities.
  • Act as a change agent.
  • Seek opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development.

Requirements:

  • Postdoctoral Fellow 0: Doctor of Medicine (MD) from an accredited medical school or Terminal Degree in a related field.
  • Postdoctoral Fellow 1: One year of Postdoc experience.
  • Postdoctoral Fellow 2: Two years' Postdoc experience.
  • Postdoctoral Fellow 3: Three years' Postdoc experience.
  • Postdoctoral Fellow 4: Four years' Postdoc experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of biomedical research.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
