Postdoctoral Researcher Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the University of Houston. The successful candidate will have a strong background in coarse-grained simulation of proteins and a proven track record of publication in the field.

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for conducting simulations of proteins involved in the Photosystem II (PSII) complex in cyanobacteria under a variety of conditions. The successful applicant will also perform simulations of other proteins that are observed to interact via tomography experiments in cyanobacteria.

The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with undergraduate and graduate students at UH, Rice University, and Texas Southern University (TSU) to give guidance and training. The position offers a competitive salary with benefits, and is funded for an 18 month period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform coarse-grained simulations related to PSII and other proteins suggested by experiments in cyanobacteria.
  • Analysis of the simulations performed, and recommend new simulations or analysis based on the results.
  • Manage the code on GitHub, and ensure the results of the simulation are properly shared via DataFed.
  • Write manuscripts for publication.
  • Present this research at conferences.
  • Interact with students, both undergraduate and graduate, to give guidance and training.

Requirements:

  • A PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, or related degree.
  • Experience with common molecular simulation packages such as GROMACS, LAAMPS, OpenMM, Martini, or other libraries.
  • Proficiency with C/C++, Python, or other common languages.
  • Experience with LaTeX (for writing) and GitHub (for distributing code and version control).
  • Experience with Linux and submitting jobs via slurm on a cluster.
