Nursing Triage RN Job Summary

The Nursing Triage RN serves as a liaison between physicians, nurses, and patients via telephone or messaging. This role manages and documents patient phone calls pertaining to medical conditions and questions according to established policies and evidence-based guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and document patient phone calls related to medical conditions and questions
  • Apply clinical knowledge to a specific patient population
  • Assist the healthcare team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort
  • Provide direction and education to patients and families
  • Accurately document age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care
Requirements:
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state
  • Current AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience
  • Academic Health Care Experience
  • Experience with similar patient population in an ambulatory care setting or as applicable to the area of practice
  • Telephone triage experience
  • Triage skills to include familiarity/experience with client interaction on the telephone
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited RN nursing program
  • Enrollment in an accredited Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing program within 24 months of date of hire
  • Successful completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing no later than 5 years (or 60 months) from date of hire
  • Completion of Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
  • Certification in specialty area
Work Environment:

This role requires a pleasant telephone voice with a positive, enthusiastic, and helpful demeanor. Accurate verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate grammar and spelling, are essential. The practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards.
