Role Overview

The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analytical decision support to senior officials regarding space architectures, policy formulation, strategic planning, and threat mitigation, influencing future space missions within the national security space framework. DSG is distinctive at Aerospace, as it not only directly aids major clients but also offers a wide array of services across the national space landscape, maintaining both vertical and horizontal responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide the customer, including ESS SEIT leadership, in developing, assessing, and overseeing comprehension of system requirements and engineering practices.
  • Ensure effective execution of systems integration efforts between space and ground components of the ESS program.
  • Utilize systems engineering, requirements, and testing methodologies to assist in the creation of acquisition documents necessary for the execution of Space, Ground, and Crypto acquisition initiatives.
  • Shape the requirements definition for the ESS System, including the development, coordination, and approval of system capability documents and interface control documents.
  • Provide insights to Aerospace leadership and the customer regarding risks, issues, opportunities, and related mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate mission trades among segments and products for system-level design reviews to identify optimal system architecture designs.
  • Maintain effective relationships with customer leadership and contractors.
  • Lead the Aerospace team in executing systems engineering, integration, and testing responsibilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible engineering or scientific experience in government programs.
  • Experience in systems engineering, requirements development, and program acquisition.
  • Proven track record of leading and communicating with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to balance technical details with broader programmatic perspectives.
  • Capacity to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
  • Experience in risk and schedule assessments.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related STEM field from an accredited institution.
  • Active Secret clearance is required, and U.S. citizenship is necessary to obtain this clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
  • Experience with satellite communication systems and command and control systems.
  • Understanding of government space system acquisition processes.
  • Project management experience, including system-level optimization trades.
  • Familiarity with Aerospace culture and experience coordinating with Engineering & Technology Group (ETG).
  • Active TS/SCI clearance or the ability to obtain one.
