Job Title: Youth Development Mentor

About the Role:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a highly motivated and dedicated individual to serve as a Youth Development Mentor. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with young people and making a positive impact in their lives.

Job Summary:
  • Assist the Youth Mentoring Specialist in planning and implementing events and activities for MYVA youth, including workshops, field trips, college tours, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Provide individualized support to 15-24 year olds, helping them achieve their educational, career, and social goals.
  • Develop skills in creating engaging and relevant programming for youth, learning about best practices for managing a mentoring program, and creating partnerships within the community.
Responsibilities:
  1. Plan and implement events and activities for MYVA youth, ensuring they are engaging, relevant, and aligned with the program's goals.
  2. Provide individualized support to youth, including college readiness and application support, digital literacy training, and connection to local resources.
  3. Facilitate volunteer opportunities for youth, including evening and weekend work.
  4. Adhere to IRC policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy, and practice sensitivity to cultural and personality differences of clients.
Requirements:
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to vulnerable populations, with a desire to help refugees adjust to life in the U.S.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Canva, and other digital platforms.
  • Flexible schedule and ability to work some weekends and evenings.
  • Background in education or experience working with youth formally or informally.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication skills, and creativity.
