Qualifications

Candidates must be U.S. citizens or provide documentation confirming eligibility to work in the United States.

Required Education & Experience: All positions for community supervision officers necessitate the completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience. Candidates should have at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the level below the position being applied for. Proficiency in keyboarding skills (or alternative skills) is essential for producing reports, documents, and correspondence using electronic word processing and other office technology.

Specialized Experience is defined as progressively responsible experience gained after obtaining a bachelor's degree, demonstrating the ability to understand and apply human behavior management skills relevant to the role. Experience in law enforcement, parole, custodial, or security roles does not qualify as specialized experience.

Maximum Age Requirement: First-time appointees to positions governed by federal law enforcement officer retirement provisions must not have reached their 37th birthday at the time of appointment. Applicants aged 37 and older with prior law enforcement experience under the Federal Employees' Retirement System (FERS) may have their previous experience deducted from their age to determine eligibility.

Medical Requirements: Prior to appointment, candidates will undergo a medical examination and drug screening. Successful completion of these requirements will lead to provisional appointment, pending a favorable background investigation. As a condition of employment, incumbents will be subject to ongoing random drug screenings, updated background checks every five years, and may be required to undergo fitness-for-duty evaluations as deemed necessary by management.

Physical Requirements: Officers must possess, with or without corrective lenses, good distance vision in at least one eye and the ability to read standard print. Normal hearing ability, with or without hearing aids, is also required. Severe health issues, such as physical defects or diseases that pose employment hazards, may disqualify candidates.
