We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Operator to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our highway maintenance team, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment, performing manual labor, and responding to emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities- Operate heavy equipment, including dump trucks, loaders, and graders, to maintain and repair highways and roads.
- Perform manual labor, including clearing drainage, cutting brush, and patching potholes.
- Respond to emergency situations, including snow and ice removal, and other hazardous road conditions.
- Attend work zone training and prepare work zones for traffic control.
- Participate in team efforts to complete road maintenance projects.
- Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, and methods.
- Demonstrated experience in equipment operation comparable to that used in highway maintenance/construction activities.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including frequently lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
- Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
