Orthopedic Surgical Technologist

Employment Type: Full Time (40 Hour Week)

Shift: Day Shift

Work Schedule: 10 Hour Shifts

Incentive: $10,000 Hiring Bonus for eligible external candidates who meet all conditions for payment, in addition to a comprehensive benefits and compensation package.

The Orthopedic Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in supporting surgical procedures by preparing and managing the necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies. This position collaborates closely with the surgical team, including registered nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other medical personnel, to ensure optimal patient care aligned with the mission and values of Swedish Health Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary scrub during designated surgical procedures, ensuring that all instruments and supplies are organized and ready for use.
  • Maintain a steady supply of fluids and medications, ensuring they are labeled and accessible during operations.
  • Assist the surgical team by handing instruments, holding retractors, and performing various tasks as directed by the surgeon.
  • Effectively manage equipment and supplies according to the surgeon's preferences, collaborating with the surgical team to update and maintain preference cards.
  • Demonstrate versatility by functioning competently across multiple specialty areas, adapting to the needs of the surgical team.
  • Support team members in patient positioning, transportation, and room turnover, ensuring a sterile environment through proper washing and sterilization of instruments.
  • Prepare and drape patients, anticipating the needs of the surgical team regarding supplies and instrumentation.
  • Conduct accurate counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments as per established policies.
  • Foster positive working relationships with all healthcare team members, effectively communicating any issues or updates during procedures.
  • Handle specimens in accordance with policy guidelines.
  • Prioritize tasks efficiently, utilizing non-direct care time productively and assisting colleagues as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Completion of a surgical technician vocational program or equivalent training.
  • Upon Hire: Washington Surgical Technologist Registration and National Provider BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred:

  • At least 6 months of experience in a hospital operating room setting.
