Position Overview

Objective
The primary aim of this position is to enhance the profitability and success of projects by delivering precise, prompt, and comprehensive estimates for Heavy Civil Construction, which encompasses underground work, grading, concrete, and paving. This role also involves providing continuous support during the construction phase of projects, which may include interpreting estimates, resolving issues, and effectively managing change orders.

Company / Entity Responsibilities
  1. Actively contributes to the Estimating function's objectives and goals. Remains informed about industry trends and best practices, including new methodologies and equipment. Focuses on long-term priorities, incorporates customer feedback, and consistently seeks improvements in daily processes and procedures.
  2. Works collaboratively across departments to ensure consistent estimating practices and administrative protocols. Safeguards adherence to policies, procedures, and standards while protecting the interests of the company.
  3. Fosters and upholds the values of Teichert Construction, including diversity, teamwork, a fair work environment, and mutual respect. Encourages a collaborative spirit within the business unit and cooperates with other disciplines across the organization.
  4. Enhances and safeguards the community perception of Teichert.
Technical / Specialty Responsibilities
  1. Prepares complete and timely estimates with accuracy. Reviews project plans and specifications to ascertain scope and identify potential risks. Analyzes historical data to validate similar project unit prices and man-hour production rates. Constructs estimates promptly, adhering to business and company standards, policies, and procedures. Coordinates 'Good Faith Effort' advertisements and formulates plans to achieve DBE/DVBE/SBE goals.
  2. Organizes and leads meetings, sets completion dates, and reviews technical specifications for project teams. This includes reviewing bid documents, takeoffs, and joint venture agreements; creating pre-bid project schedules and risk assessments; estimating project manpower, equipment, and material requirements; coordinating bid reviews, bid day strategies, and post-bid document submissions; and continuously assessing project progress and outcomes.
  3. Facilitates job setup by preparing and conducting handoff meetings, breakdowns, subcontracts, purchase orders, and other necessary documentation for procured projects. Reviews plans and field modifications and assists in the change order process as needed.
  4. Collaborates with Project Managers and Superintendents to resolve issues, implement ongoing efficiencies, and enhance methods for achieving project objectives. Suggests and integrates changes in procedures, objectives, or optimal solutions based on cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
  5. Identifies and pursues potential business opportunities and new client prospects to foster new business development.
  6. Establishes and maintains positive client relationships that lead to increased business, repeat clients, and industry referrals. Communicates company and project policies, procedures, and standards, while gathering feedback to continuously improve work processes, practices, and equipment.
  7. Supports the achievement of a zero-injury culture by endorsing Teichert's Injury Prevention and Safety program and actively participating in relevant safety meetings and training sessions to maintain a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with corporate safety standards.
  8. Completes internal administrative organization and documentation, including project logs, files, records, and reports related to the Estimating function. This may encompass bids, cost estimates, and compliance with state and federal regulations and codes. Contributes to the development of up-to-date estimating guidelines, manuals, and policies and procedures.

  • Owners, developers, consultants, private customers, public agencies, state and federal regulatory bodies, A/E representatives, and industry peers for networking and collaboration.
Internal clients:
  • Business Development Representatives, Senior and Chief Estimators, Take-off Technicians, Engineering Technicians, Engineering Services Managers, Superintendents, Project Managers, Administrative Managers, Contract Administrators, Cost Analysts, Estimators, Project Engineers, Administrative Staff, Materials, and other business units.
Role Qualifications & Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of technical training and relevant experience.
Experience & Industry Expertise:
  • A minimum of five years of estimating experience in construction, or an equivalent combination of technical training and relevant experience.
  • Senior level estimators should possess prior experience supervising team bidding efforts and estimating a diverse range of projects/contracts.
Specific Job Requirements:
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background checks.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Current on all company-required safety training.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and avoid conflicts of interest.
  • Strong proficiency in computer applications and estimating/project management software.
  • Good understanding of collective bargaining agreements, personnel issues, and EEO.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction contracts and law.
  • Strong comprehension of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, technology, equipment methods, cost control, schedules, etc., and their impact on project activities.
  • Strong familiarity with the company's Standard Operating Policies and Procedures.

  • Physical: Sitting for extended periods while working at the computer or driving to job sites. Job site visits require walking on uneven terrain, climbing, bending, stooping, and crawling in confined spaces. Some lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May work long hours during peak seasons.
  • Work Environment: Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Demands of meeting tight deadlines. Exposure to job site conditions which may include loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather conditions. May work various shifts or hours, including early mornings, dusk, or evenings.

BASE SALARY RANGE:
$98,000 - $197,167.00
The displayed range reflects the company's reasonable expectations for compensation for this position. Actual base salary may vary based on role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
