About the Role

The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools seeks a highly skilled and experienced Associate Director, Administration to join our vibrant learning community. This key role will oversee a range of programs, events, and student activities, developing and implementing orientation programming for incoming students and other initiatives that foster student communities.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of student development and a passion for creating inclusive and engaging experiences. They will work closely with the Family Life Programs team to design, post, recruit, develop, and retain top talent, ensuring a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee recruitment, selection, and interviewing strategies to attract highly qualified candidates.
  • Collaborate with HR partners to design, post, recruit, develop, and retain solid Family Life Programs team members.
  • Conduct reference checks for all new employees.
  • Create comprehensive onboarding programs to ensure new hires are effectively integrated into the Lab Schools and FLP department.
  • Coordinate orientation sessions to familiarize all FLP staff with the schools' culture, values, and policies.
  • Assess training needs and provide professional development programs to enhance employee skills and competencies.
  • Continuously improve onboarding processes and employee training based on feedback and best practices.
  • Facilitate career coaching and mentorship programs to support employee growth and development.
  • Champion DEI initiatives to create a diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Facilitate effective communication between daytime administration and the FLP team.
  • Collaborate with various Lab departments to support departmental goals and initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to Assistant Directors on handling staff relations and family relations issues effectively.
  • Implement employee recognition activities to celebrate achievement and milestones.
  • Use various methods to gauge overall satisfaction and identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage and input biweekly payroll of all FLP staff.
  • Oversee the performance management process of part-time employees.
  • Develop performance improvement plans for underperforming employees and support their progress.
  • Address employee concerns in a timely and fair manner.
