Role Summary:

The Commercial Credit Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring that loan applications adhere to stringent quality standards, comply with relevant regulations, and align with company policies. Although this position holds lending authority, it is not categorized as a production role. The officer will also oversee the management of letters of credit and various functions within Credit Administration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate commercial, commercial real estate, agricultural, and other loan proposals submitted by loan officers or business lines to guarantee thorough underwriting, appropriate structuring, effective administration, prudent risk management, compliance with Loan Policy, and accurate risk assessment.
  • Engage with loan officers, Banking Center Presidents, Senior Lenders, and/or Line of Business Chiefs to address and resolve any issues or concerns identified during the review process prior to loan approval.
  • Support the Chief Credit Officer in the review, modification, interpretation, and implementation of the Loan Policy.
  • Monitor the loan portfolio and analyze market trends that may influence credit quality.
  • Assist with both internal and external annual examinations/audits.
  • Contribute to training initiatives.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of company products, services, policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory matters as they pertain to daily operations, including but not limited to: Bank Secrecy Act; Privacy Act; Fair Lending Act; Regulation E, etc. Complete mandatory compliance training and uphold the company's standards of conduct.
  • Participate in the company's High-Performance Rewards Connections program by making referrals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 20 years of experience in lending, credit, loan review, or a combination of these areas, encompassing a broad spectrum of commercial, commercial real estate, and some familiarity with agricultural lending.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of banking regulations and procedures.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including global cash flow analysis.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions promptly.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated and effective in a team-oriented environment, fostering relationships across the organization.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong listening abilities.
  • Proficient in general computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for business purposes.
  • Capable of extensive reading and computer usage.
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours as necessary.
