Your Responsibilities...
  • Adhere to ACBL safety protocols and ensure all tasks performed during your watch align with these standards.
  • Navigate vessels with utmost safety and precision.
  • Provide guidance and training to crew members on their respective duties and monitor their performance.
  • Act as the designated vessel security officer, executing all responsibilities outlined in the Vessel Security Plan.
  • Ensure crew members are informed about the cargo of each barge in tow and understand any associated risks.
  • Uphold all company policies and vessel-specific regulations in support of the Safety Management System (SMS) and Crew Endurance Management System.
  • Engage in crew management, general supervisory tasks, and oversee the vessel's financial plan.
  • Complete necessary log entries accurately.
  • Maintain radio communication as required.
  • Report Certain Dangerous Cargoes (CDC) at designated points to the Inland River Vessel Movement Center.
  • Enforce compliance with all regulations.
  • Delegate tasks and provide direction to the mate and/or lead deckhand.
  • Follow established vessel management policies and procedures diligently.
  • Assist in managing the vessel budget and strive for cost efficiency as directed.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members, ACBL land-based staff, USCG, or lock personnel.
Qualifications...

Essential Requirements:
  • Master of Towing Vessels upon Western Rivers license is mandatory.
  • Experience operating on the Lower Mississippi River with 30+ loaded barges is required.
  • Must meet USCG physical examination standards.
  • Ability to travel to and from vessel or training locations via air or car.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Willingness to work on a 6 hours on, 6 hours off watch schedule.
  • Experience in pushing barges (preferably tows of 20 or more).
  • Capability to ride in or pilot a crew boat or zodiac for vessel access.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Maintain valid USCG licensing.
  • Active TWIC status is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience pushing 20+ barges is advantageous.
