KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as an advocate for restorative practices, effectively communicating their advantages to educators, parents, students, and the broader community.
  • Design, execute, and oversee peer restorative justice initiatives at designated school locations, providing training and support to staff in the application of restorative methodologies.
  • Deliver continuous professional development and coaching to school leaders, educators, and community partners on restorative practices.
  • Assist in the creation, execution, and assessment of training programs focused on restorative justice.
  • Facilitate restorative interventions involving students, parents, and educators as alternatives to traditional disciplinary actions.
  • Coordinate the reintegration of students returning from disciplinary actions through restorative approaches, ensuring access to necessary support services.
  • Lead professional learning communities focused on restorative practices within school settings.
  • Guide school culture teams in the effective integration of restorative practices to enhance learning conditions and reduce disciplinary actions.
  • Utilize a Model – Mentor – Transfer approach to promote restorative community-building practices and positive classroom environments.
  • Represent the district at various meetings and conferences to share and promote restorative practices aimed at addressing inequities.
  • Serve as a liaison to community organizations to bolster support for restorative practices within district schools.
  • Collaborate with district departments to align restorative practices with existing programs focused on violence prevention, truancy reduction, and mental health support.
  • Engage in data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of restorative practices in enhancing safety and reducing disciplinary disparities.
  • Work alongside various initiatives to ensure that restorative practices are integrated with other best practices aimed at promoting equity.
  • Employ trauma-informed restorative practices to support healing within the school community.
  • Identify funding opportunities and assist in the development of proposals to expand restorative practices.
  • Participate in training sessions to stay informed about best practices in restorative justice.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will be evaluated based on their qualifications, relevant experience, ability to fulfill essential functions, and effective communication skills demonstrated through interviews and assessments.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • At least one year of experience in conflict mediation and youth development in educational or community settings.
  • Experience in urban school environments is preferred.
  • Experience in training and coaching educators is advantageous.
  • Commitment to student success and family development is essential.
  • Availability for evening and weekend commitments may be necessary.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish are beneficial but not mandatory.
  • A valid driver's license is required if applicable.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The role involves working in diverse school settings, requiring travel and adaptability to a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position requires mental alertness, the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, and the capacity to lift and carry objects as needed.
