Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under close supervision, the Research Associate II engages in routine and progressively intricate laboratory tasks and methodologies, acquiring technical proficiency in various domains pertinent to research initiatives. This role involves active participation in research endeavors encompassing all facets of the research continuum, including investigation, technical analysis, validation of outcomes, and documentation of findings. The Associate will execute a range of standard experimental protocols and processes to facilitate the aims of laboratory research projects. Responsibilities also include adherence to safety protocols, assisting in data preparation for scholarly dissemination, and contributing to general laboratory upkeep. This position does not entail supervisory duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Executing routine production of biological products, including media formulation, cell culture, cell enumeration, formulation, centrifugation, and cryopreservation.
  • Independently completing necessary documentation and advising fellow operators on accurate cGMP record-keeping practices.
  • Conducting a variety of increasingly sophisticated experimental protocols and aiding in the creation of new complex or unconventional methodologies.
  • Maintaining precise and comprehensive records of experiments and results, assisting in the identification and resolution of unexpected outcomes.
  • Preparing technical documents, protocols, and reports.
  • Ordering laboratory supplies and supporting laboratory functions.
  • Overseeing lab equipment maintenance and related documentation, potentially coordinating the use of laboratory apparatus.
  • Assisting in the operation of specialized equipment as required by the research focus.
  • Contributing to the preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at academic conferences.
  • Observing and adhering to safety regulations and protocols.
  • Training research laboratory assistants or junior research associates and undergraduate researchers on daily lab operations and standard procedures.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Two (2) years of laboratory experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a cGMP/cGTP manufacturing environment within academic or industry settings.
  • Individuals with a scientific background, particularly in mammalian cell culture and cGMP experience, are preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (cGMP/cGTP) in the biopharmaceutical, blood, and/or tissue banking sectors.
  • Understanding of general research objectives.
  • Acquainted with standard laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organization.
  • Applicants must be highly motivated, capable of working independently, and possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate across various company disciplines and functional units. Proficiency in computer applications is essential.
  • Must have computer skills, including but not limited to, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple clerical tasks simultaneously with a keen attention to detail.
