Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of senior staff, the Research Associate II engages in routine and progressively intricate laboratory tasks, cultivating technical skills in various domains pertinent to research initiatives. This role encompasses participation in comprehensive research activities, including investigation, technical assessments, validation of results, and documentation of findings. The Associate will execute a range of standard experimental protocols to support laboratory research objectives, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and assisting in the preparation of data for scholarly dissemination. This position does not entail supervisory duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Executing routine production of biological products, which includes media preparation, cell culture, cell counting, formulation, centrifugation, and cryopreservation.
  • Independently managing necessary documentation and advising fellow operators on proper cGMP practices for recording entries and comments on batch records, forms, and protocols.
  • Conducting a variety of increasingly sophisticated experimental protocols and contributing to the design of new and complex techniques.
  • Maintaining precise and comprehensive records of experiments and results, while assisting in troubleshooting unexpected outcomes.
  • Preparing technical summaries, protocols, and comprehensive reports.
  • Ordering laboratory supplies and facilitating laboratory operations.
  • Ensuring proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and associated records, and coordinating the use of lab apparatus.
  • Assisting in the operation of specialized equipment as required by the research area.
  • Supporting the preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at academic conferences.
  • Observing and adhering to established safety standards and protocols.
  • Training research laboratory assistants or junior research associates and undergraduate student researchers on daily lab operations and standard procedures.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of laboratory experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a cGMP/cGTP manufacturing environment within academic or industry settings.
  • Scientific background with experience in mammalian cell culture and cGMP practices is essential.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements (cGMP/cGTP) in the biopharmaceutical, blood, and/or tissue banking sectors.
  • Understanding of general research objectives and methodologies.
  • Proficient in routine laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organization.
  • Highly motivated individual capable of working independently, with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Able to manage multiple clerical tasks simultaneously with a keen attention to detail.
