POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of senior staff, the Research Associate II engages in a variety of laboratory tasks that range from routine to complex, acquiring specialized knowledge in areas pertinent to ongoing research initiatives. This role involves active participation in all phases of the research cycle, including investigation, technical analysis, validation of results, and documentation of findings. The Associate will execute numerous experimental protocols to support laboratory research objectives, ensuring adherence to safety standards and contributing to the maintenance of laboratory operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Executing routine production of biological products, including tasks such as media preparation, cell culture, cell counting, formulation, centrifugation, and cryopreservation.
- Independently managing documentation and mentoring fellow operators on accurate cGMP record-keeping practices.
- Conducting a range of increasingly sophisticated experimental protocols and aiding in the formulation of new and innovative techniques.
- Maintaining precise and comprehensive records of experiments and outcomes, while assisting in troubleshooting unexpected results.
- Preparing technical documents, protocols, and reports.
- Ordering and managing laboratory supplies to ensure smooth operational flow.
- Overseeing the maintenance of laboratory equipment and associated records, coordinating usage as necessary.
- Providing assistance with specialized equipment operation as dictated by research requirements.
- Contributing to the preparation of data for scholarly publications and presentations.
- Adhering to established safety protocols and standards.
- Training and orienting junior laboratory assistants and undergraduate researchers on daily operations and standard procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of two (2) years of laboratory experience.
- 1-3 years of experience in a cGMP/cGTP manufacturing environment within academic or industry settings.
- Strong background in scientific research, with specific experience in mammalian cell culture and cGMP practices.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements (cGMP/cGTP) in the biopharmaceutical, blood, or tissue banking sectors.
- Comprehension of general research objectives and methodologies.
- Proficiency in routine laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organization.
- Highly motivated individual capable of independent work, with excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Excel and Word.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a keen attention to detail.
